Turn power on (press switch). The "Power" and "Wait" lights should come on. Allow unit to warm untill "Wait" light
goes off. Unit is now ready. Place wedge of sample fliter onto slide and place slide onto base of unit, with filter centered
below the discharge tube (Figure 1). With a syringe, slowly inject 1/4 cc of acetone through septum on top of unit (Figure 2). Wait
about 3 to 5 seconds for filter to clear, then remove slide.
With a micropipet, add 3 to 3.5 microliters of triacetin directly
onto the cleared filter. Do not inject triacetin into the Perm-O-Fix. Gently lower a cover slip over the filter. Lower
at a slight angle to reduce air bubbles from forming. Glue the edges of the cover slip to the slide.
If clearing is slow after
cover slip is installed, slide can be warmed on "Slide Warmer" on top of unit to speed clearing. Do not allow slide to overheat or
gas bubbles may form.
"Wait" light will continue to go on and off, but unit can be used without any more waiting after
it initially goes off.
CAUTION: Turn power off when not in use. Follow all warnings from the MSDS for acetone and triacetin.
